Commercial Sign Repair
Sign repair that starts with the real failure—not a guess.
S2 diagnoses illuminated and non-lighted commercial signs, damaged faces, loose letters, leaning structures, obsolete lighting, and parking-lot or exterior-lighting problems.
Based in Loveland, S2 serves repair projects throughout Northern Colorado and takes qualifying work in the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs. We repair signs built by S2 and signs built by other companies.
Start with what you see
You do not need to diagnose the sign before you call.
Most repair requests begin with a symptom. Tell us what changed, where the sign is located, and whether the problem affects the whole sign or only one area.
Illuminated-sign diagnosis
A dark sign can have several very different causes.
Replacing the first visible failed part is not always a complete repair. S2 looks at the lighting system, wiring, moisture, service access, faces, and sign structure together.
Power supplies + drivers
Output, load, location, heat, moisture, grounding, and serviceability.
LED modules
Failed zones, color shift, module spacing, optics, attachment, and wiring.
Controls
Photocells, timers, disconnects, switches, and operating schedule.
Faces + cabinets
Light transmission, cracks, leaks, corrosion, retainers, and access.
The practical path
Repair, retrofit, restore, or replace?
The right answer depends on how much useful sign remains. S2 separates the immediate failure from the surrounding condition so the recommendation does not solve one problem while leaving three others behind.
| Path | Usually makes sense when | Typical scope |
|---|---|---|
| Repair | The sign body, faces, structure, and overall design remain useful and the failure is limited. | Power supply, modules, wiring, controls, hardware, one face, one letter, or a localized structural correction. |
| LED retrofit | The existing fluorescent, glass-neon, or early LED system is obsolete, unreliable, difficult to service, or inefficient to maintain. | Remove old lighting, correct wiring and moisture issues, design a new LED layout, install power supplies, and test illumination. |
| Re-face or restore | The cabinet, letters, frame, or permitted location is valuable, but the visible finish no longer represents the business. | New faces, graphics, paint, trim, retainers, acrylic, tenant panels, cleaning, corrosion correction, and lighting updates. |
| Replace | Structure, corrosion, water intrusion, access, sign size, design, or multiple systems make continued repair poor value. | New sign design, permits, engineering where required, fabrication, installation, and electrician coordination. |
A repair estimate is only useful when it includes the conditions that created the failure. S2 will tell you when a focused repair is sensible—and when it is likely to become the first of several repeated service calls.
Project example · Thornton, Colorado
Every glass-neon letter converted to 12-volt LED in one carefully scheduled day.
Fodor Billiards operated in a busy commercial complex. S2 scheduled the conversion for Christmas Day 2017 so the work would not block normal customer traffic at Fodor or the neighboring businesses.
The quieter site also reduced pedestrian activity beneath the overhead work. S2 removed the legacy neon system, converted every letter to 12-volt LED modules, completed the sign-side wiring, and tested the full letter set after dark.
This was a project-specific scheduling decision—not a standing promise of holiday or after-hours service. It is an example of planning the repair around the business, the property, access, and public safety.
Non-lighted + structural repair
A sign does not have to be dark to need serious attention.
S2 can quote physical failures and appearance problems on illuminated and non-lighted signs. That includes leaning poles, damaged posts and frames, loose dimensional letters, broken panels, cabinet and monument damage, failed fasteners, corroded J-bolts, deteriorated paint, cracked faces, and impact damage.
When a vehicle strike, footing movement, corrosion, or wind changes the position of a sign, the repair must address the structure—not simply make the cabinet look level again. S2 evaluates the pole, base, anchors, welds, footing, cabinet, wiring, and access conditions as one system.
- Leaning pole and post signs
- Vehicle and storm damage
- Corroded or loose J-bolts
- Damaged frames and welds
- Loose or missing letters
- Broken panels and retainers
- Cabinet and monument damage
- Repainting, re-facing, and restoration
More than sign lighting
Parking lot and commercial exterior lighting repair.
S2 repairs parking-lot pole lights, building-mounted wall packs, gas-station and drive-through canopy lights, soffit and entry lighting, fixture heads, arms, controls, drivers, poles, bases, and related exterior-lighting components.
We can also repair or replace poles damaged by vehicle impact, loose footings, corroded J-bolts, failed bases, and other physical conditions. S2 is set up for commercial exterior lighting—not whole-building interior lighting packages.
How repair work moves
From symptom to a tested repair.
Simple repairs can move quickly. Complex signs, structural failures, unusual access, obsolete parts, and building-power issues require more planning. The sequence keeps the scope honest.
Send the basics
Address, daytime and nighttime photos, sign type if known, and a description of what changed.
Initial triage
S2 reviews likely failure points, access, height, sign construction, safety, and whether an electrician may be needed.
Site diagnosis
A field visit confirms the electrical, face, cabinet, mounting, structure, pole, or fixture condition.
Scope + recommendation
We separate immediate repairs from optional improvements and explain repair, retrofit, restoration, or replacement.
Repair work
Parts, access equipment, shop fabrication, permits when required, and licensed-electrician coordination are scheduled.
Test + document
The repaired sign or light is tested under the practical operating conditions and the completed work is documented.
Electrical scope
S2 handles the sign and lighting system. Licensed electricians handle the building-power work.
S2 handles modules, power supplies, LED drivers, low-voltage and lighting-side wiring, photocells, timers, controls, fixtures, arms, sign bodies, poles, access equipment, physical repairs, and applicable UL labeling processes.
When a project requires underground feeder work, a new breaker, service-panel work, branch-circuit installation, or final building-power termination, S2 coordinates that portion with a licensed electrician. We do not service electrical panels or perform final hookups to new signs.

Sign repair FAQs
Questions customers ask before a diagnostic visit.
Photos and the property address are the most useful starting points. The actual sign, access, and failure determine the final scope.
Do you repair signs that S2 did not build?
Yes. S2 diagnoses and repairs commercial signs built by other companies as well as signs we originally designed, fabricated, and installed.
What usually causes an illuminated sign to go dark?
Common causes include failed power supplies, LED modules, fluorescent ballasts or lamps, damaged wiring, failed photocells or timers, moisture intrusion, and problems with the branch circuit. Diagnosis determines which part is actually responsible.
Does S2 repair traditional glass neon or beer signs?
No. S2 no longer repairs traditional glass-neon systems or small beer signs. For commercial signs with serviceable letter bodies or cabinets, we can evaluate conversion from neon to 12-volt LED modules.
Can you repair non-lighted signs?
Yes. S2 can quote loose or missing letters, broken faces and retainers, leaning signs, damaged posts and frames, corroded hardware, impact damage, faded graphics, repainting, re-facing, and other non-lighted structural or appearance work.
Do you repair parking-lot and exterior lighting?
Yes. S2 repairs parking-lot pole lights, wall packs, canopy lights, soffit and entry lighting, damaged poles, fixture heads, drivers, photocells, controls, and LED retrofits. We do not quote whole-building interior lighting packages.
How do I know whether to repair, retrofit, or replace the sign?
The answer depends on the condition of the cabinet or letters, faces, wiring, structure, water management, service access, permit status, and the cost of correcting all related failures. S2 provides a practical recommendation after diagnosis.
What electrical work does S2 perform?
S2 handles sign-side and lighting-side components, low-voltage wiring, modules, power supplies, drivers, controls, fixtures, access equipment, and physical sign or pole work. New breakers, panel service, underground feeder work, and final building-power terminations are coordinated with a licensed electrician.
How quickly will S2 respond to a repair request?
S2 responds to inquiries within one business day. The site visit and repair schedule depend on location, access, safety, parts, weather, and the actual scope of the work.
Can I send photos with the repair request?
The website form does not currently accept attachments. Submit the form, then email daylight and nighttime photos to hello@s2signs.com with the property address and a short description of the failure.
How much does sign repair cost?
Repair cost depends on diagnosis, access equipment, labor, replacement parts, sign size and height, wiring condition, face or structural damage, permits when required, and whether the work can be completed in the field or must return to the shop.
