When custom is the right answer

A custom solution should solve a real constraint—not add complexity for its own sake.

Many requests that sound custom are actually better served by a proven sign type: channel letters, a cabinet, a dimensional logo, a sign panel, a monument, a banner, or applied vinyl. Start with the problem

The first concept is allowed to change when the build teaches us something.

HDU carved signs

One of the most useful custom-sign materials is also one many customers never think to ask for.

High-density urethane—usually shortened to HDU—is a closed-cell sign material that machines cleanly, accepts paint, and does not rot like wood. It can be routed as a flat shape, carved into dimensional relief, layered into 2.5D compositions, textured for a sandblasted look, or sculpted into more complete forms.

HDU is especially useful when the sign should feel traditional, handcrafted, dimensional, or integrated with a monument or landscape. Restaurants, hospitality, churches, neighborhoods, developments, parks, and specialty retail can use the material to create an identity that flat panels and separate letters do not produce. The final system still needs appropriate structure, coatings, attachment, drainage, and maintenance.
