What Are Monument Signs?

A Monument Sign is simply a name used for signs that are placed near the street and identify your building or business.

Monument Signs are very flexible and can have just one tenant listed or many. The goal of a Monument Sign is always to advertise to customers on the street.

A Single-Tenant Monument Sign is a great way to advertise for some businesses, churches, apartment complexes, and housing developments. Monument Signs used for locations such as these are often large monolithic structures that feature a variety of different elements of them.

A ‘Monument Sign’ is just a term to describe placement of a sign – many different electric sign elements can be combined to create them. Elements such as Channel Letters, Light Box Signs, Stone Bases, and/or Dimensional Letters can be mixed and matched to find a look that fits your image perfectly.

Multi-Tenant Monument Signs are usually placed by the street to advertise all the tenants in a certain complex. Just like their Single-Tenant counterparts, they can be made to suit your needs and/or budget.

Simple Multi-Tenant Monuments are usually made from a Light Box Sign with a divider system installed to allow for easy making/changing of new tenant panels. In the case of a Multi-Tenant Monument Sign – often a landowner will install a Pole Sign to act as a Monument Sign.

What Are Monument Signs Made From?

Monument Signs are just a name used to describe the location of a certain sign – not the way that it is built.

Monuments can be made from a wide variety of materials and can be as simple or as complex as you need to get your message across.

Monument Signs are often thought of as signs that sit on masonry or stone bases, but plenty of monuments are installed on posts, aluminum frames, concrete foundations, and a wide variety of other surfaces and bases.

Monument Signs can feature Channel Letters, Dimensional Letters, LED Lighting, Custom Neon Lighting, Light Box Signs, and/or Electronic Message Centers.

The options for a Monument Sign are truly endless.

How Big Can Monument Signs Be?

Monument Signs can be made as small or as large as you need. There isn’t a ‘standard size’ for a Monument Sign.

While most customers want a Monument to be as big as possible, there are rules that need to be followed to obtain your Sign Permit.

Almost all Monument Signs will require a sign permit and, as such, are subject to size restrictions set forth by your City. The regulations and guidelines vary wildly from City to City.

When you hire us to manufacture your new Monument Sign you can rest easy knowing that we’re familiar and experienced with the Sign Permitting process. We will do the necessary research to make sure we know how big your new sign can be to be permitted.

Where Can I Put Monument Signs?

Just like with the rules regarding how big your new sign can be – there are rules that dictate where you can and cannot put one.

Some places are simply not allowed to have a Monument Sign, while others have virtually no restrictions. There are setback requirements, utility easements, right-of-way concerns and underground utilities that need to be taken into consideration when planning to build and install a new monument.

We will be happy to help you with the location and correct placement for your new sign.

How Much Do Monument Signs Cost?

We get this question a lot and there isn’t a ‘ballpark number’ that we can give you.

Every Monument Sign that we make is built custom for your needs and because of that, we have to quote Monument Signs on a case-by-case basis.

A simple, non-lit, post-and-panel type of sign may only cost a couple of hundred dollars. Larger, more complex electric monument signs can cost in the tens of thousands of dollars.

There isn’t a way to predict how much one of these signs cost until we go to the drawing board and start laying out your new Monument Sign.

Fortunately though, if you have a budget in mind that you need to stay within for your new sign – we can almost always find a solution that will work well to fit your needs.
