Construction choices
Cast plaques are substantial, traditional, and well suited to raised borders, textured backgrounds, and permanent architectural identity. Etched plaques support fine copy and graphics in a thinner metal plate. Machined or routed plates can create custom openings, recessed detail, layered parts, and repeatable building systems.
Design + readability
The building name, person, date, title, or dedication should not compete equally with every supporting line.
The amount of copy must be balanced against the viewing distance and the time a person has to stop and read.
Metal finish, background texture, recessed color, raised copy, and lighting determine whether the message reads in changing conditions.
Borders can frame the information and reinforce tradition, but too many decorative elements reduce usable copy area.
Line art usually reproduces more reliably than a low-resolution image. Fine details may need simplification for casting or etching.

Concealed studs create a clean face but require accurate drilling. Rosettes make fasteners visible and can support a traditional appearance. Exterior plaques also need drainage, compatible anchors, isolation between dissimilar metals, appropriate sealant, and a finish that belongs in the weather exposure. Interior plaques may need careful alignment with doors, millwork, directories, and accessibility signage.
